Everyday Should Be Halloween
Next Friday is the magic day, October 31. I remember this day as a kid quite well. It was the only day of the year I could gather as much candy as I could and eat it too. Of course my mother would steal the Mounds and Almond Joy’s but I learned to stash those before I emptied the bag on the living room carpet.
Adults love Halloween more than kids these days. The phenomenon picked up more than ten years ago and is still going strong. Witness the Halloween stores that pop up in vacant stores. These giant caverns are filled with everything and everything expensive. We spend big bucks on Halloween.
Naturally TNG is celebrating too. Many dress up and departments do pot luck lunches (there are some scary things in those crock pots!). Candy, prizes and other fun stuff are passed out throughout the day.
The question is why do we love Halloween so much as adults? If we have kids, we love to relive those days (and steal their candy like our parents did). But even without kids, I think it’s another holiday in which we can forget our troubles, stress levels and focus on having fun and being silly. After all, are you going to get silly at Christmas or Mother’s Day?
And isn’t silly a silly word? It’s like ridiculous. Surely ridiculous is a ridiculous word. We use the word ridiculous much more than silly and with all the events going on today, is anything really silly?
Halloween is the the official day to be silly and have fun. The day after, even though there is plenty of candy left over, it is not the same. The silliness is gone, the makeup and masks are stored and the stress of worrying is back. Here is what I think: Buy an extra bag of Mounds and Almond Joy. Have one a day until the bags empty out. Be a little silly because you don’t need Halloween to have some fun.
Happy Tuesday!

I love Halloween, it has alwasy been my favorite holiday. More than Christmas. I love to play dress up. I remember being a kid and wanting to play dress up all year long. My Mom told me that Halloween was a special dress up day and I could pretend to be whatever I wanted on that day. I would spend all year picking just the right costume so that I would make the most of the day and be something really cool. I love Halloween I love the creativity of the costumes, I still love to dress up. Now I have a son and I can dress him up too! Yes Halloween is a day to be as silly as you want. I cannot wait until next week I might have to be silly some other days because I just cant contain my silly fabulous dressing up self

Halloween is my very favorite holiday. I love going “pumpkin hunting”. I find it more exhausting looking for the perfect jack o’lantern than looking for the perfect Christmas tree. (I’m kinda picky, lol) I get excited every time I drive by a blanket of orange laying in a field. (I see a lot of that here on the west side in the “country”.) I agonize over the perfect design to carve and labor over my roasting pumpkin seeds. I dress up and pass out Halloween goodies to all the little street urchins that prowl the neighborhood, yelling “Trick or Treat”. I miss the days when I used to take my son trick or treating, so I guess that’s why I still dress up and have fun with the lil’ kids. Although it may sound like Halloween is stressful for me, it’s truly not. It’s like a labor of love. Just like some people view Christmas. Everything has to be perfect and it makes me smile.

You’re preaching to the choir. I make fun and silliness a part of every day.

Great point LG but I think we should act silly everyday I know everyone acts silly in there Halloween costumes, but why not have a silly little moment everyday just to make yourself feel good and maybe you can get someone else to smile as well I know that I have my silly moments during the day and it dose take away my stress and worries even if its just for that brief moment.

I remember as a kid, at Halloween, my dad would come home from work to take me and my brothers to the different stores to collect candy. This was so much fun, jumping in and out of his car to collect treats. I also enjoy seeing the children and my god child dressed up in their “get up” costume outfit. Some of them go all out if they are going to a Halloween party and want to win a prize.
I think its good to share a laugh or two being silly sometimes. I read somewhere, “the more you laugh the more it helps to keep the wrinkles out your face. So why not dress up at Halloween and make some people laugh?

I Love Halloween as well I love fall, hey Jen I roast the seeds too and gather at least 10 pumpkins a year so I have seeds well into November, But Halloween to me has gotten to be much more special as 2 of my boys have birthdays one on the 29th ( Larry’s b-day) and the other on the 30th, so we make the whole month fun and silly for them.
Just last weekend my kids had their friends over night and they got into the costume bin and all ran around the house like crazy lil men.
I decorate my house all out for Halloween just as much as I do for Christmas, with lights and all!
Then on Halloween we take the kids out meet up with our neighbors have a couple of brews and jump on their golf cart as the kids go door to door.
This year it falls on a Friday night so it’s gonna be more fun and stay up late watching scary movies.

Harmony is my #1 strength – I try to keep a smile on my face most of the day. I like to make people laugh. I will make silly comments just to see someone’s expression. I figure if I can make at least one person smile, I’ve done my job for the day! I find that when you approach someone with a smile, you will usually get a smile back – even if they are having a bad day!
