Trick or Treat
I love treats but many know I don’t eat too many of them. One of the funniest birthday emails I received yesterday came from Cathryn who has been with TNG for a little over a year and stated that she would have made me cupcakes but she knew I wouldn’t eat them.
Back in the day, I could compete with anyone. I feasted on Hostess Apple and Cherry pies. The best bite was always the first and last (the corners). I loved Snowballs and Cupcakes especially peeling them apart and eating the cake first and the topping second. Dove ice cream bars with dark chocolate were devoured at least every Friday night after pizza. Sunday was chocolate coffee cake after a full breakfast.
Those were the days. And those were the days before nutrition information was on packaging. If I knew that one Hostess pie had 480 calories, 60% fat grams and nearly a half cup of sugar, I would have never touched a single one. Well, maybe one.
A single row of Oreo’s was willpower. A single box of Thin Mint cookies was willpower. Let’s not even discuss Pinwheels with pure dark chocolate.
With Halloween tomorrow, I thought today would be the perfect day to talk about our favorite treats since I won’t be around tomorrow. Calories, fat grams or sugar content do not count in this exercise. So when your kids come home and dump their candy bag, which candy will you gravitate to first……
Here are my top 10 not in any particular order:
Kit Kat (how can 4 little pieces be so many calories?) One is never enough.
Almond Joy (dark chocolate and the almond)
Milky Way Dark (dark chocolate and caramel)
Dove (coconut oil is devilish)
M&M’s (peanut of course)
Nestle Crunch (positively addicting)
Snickers (I like the bite size best)
Milk Duds (chewy and satisfying)
Spree (I used to eat Giant Sweet Tarts daily)
Raisinettes (once in a while, nothing like them. Goobers too. In fact, just bring on the bridge mix and let’s play Texas Hold ‘em).
With all this talk about Hostess and candy, I’m hungry. Time for a Fiber One bar.
Happy Thursday!

When I was a kid, my dad was the production supervisor at the Hostess Bakery in Detroit. So he was always bringing home all kinds of stuff for us to try. He would take me, my brother and sister to the bakery and give us a tour so we could see how everything was made, which was pretty cool. On Halloween we became known as “the twinkie house” because he would bring home a giant rack of them for us to pass out to trick or treaters. I guess since it was always around I got to where I did not like the stuff. To this day, you won’t catch me eating any Hostess. I am more of a candy kind of girl. I love things like Skittles, and Starbursts. I guess it’s a good thing my braces prevents me from eating them though!

Anyone who knows me well can tell you I love anything with CHOCOLATE. I think I could eat cockroachs if they we dipped in it. Funny thing is I hate my ice cream dipped in that shell stuff- It always melts the ice cream and it runs down the cone and creates a mess.
Anyways, for halloween first thing my kids do when they get home is seperate the chocolate from the candy and hand it over. I do not really have a favorite but if you made me choose between a Milky Way or a Snickers I would take the Milky Way. I also LOVE a Carmello bar though I do not eat them any more(way to much fat)
Happy Halloween

M&M’s are for sure the #1 and after that comes Snickers

Although I don’t eat refined sugar anymore, I still have favorites I remember eating. Dark chocolate is my all time favorite, so Milky Way Dark is #1. As for Hostess, I was a Ding Dong/Ho Ho junkie. I would peel the chocolate coating off first and then eat the cake or unroll the Ho Ho and eat it. Now if I get the urge for something sweet, I indulge in sugar free chocolate or sugar free candy (in small doses). Carrie always hooked me up when she made us Trick or Treat goodie bags.
Happy All Hallow’s Eve!
PS. Don’t forget tonight is Devil’s Night so lock up your pumpkins!

I would easily have to say Almond Joy, then Twix, Snickers and then the fairly new take 5, I put them in the freezer, cold candy bars are the bomb!!!
Everybody have a Fun and safe Halloween.

I took my son Tyler to the trunk or treat at church last weekend, then went back to my parent’s house for a bit before heading home. First thing when we walked in the door, my dad made Tyler dump his bag on the floor so that he could snag all the mini reese cups, then my mom got all the hard candy (jawbreakers are her favorite). It’s a bit difficult for a two year old to understand that after all that hard work of walking around in the cold, saying “trick or treat” and “thank you” to a bunch of strangers, and lugging around that bag full of goodies, that someone is going to take all your goodies as soon as you get home! I can’t feel too sorry for him, though. It happened to me when I was a kid… so I took the dark chocolate mint three musketeers.

Randy, I’m with you, I also love anything chocolate! I grew up on Hostess Cupcakes. I mean literely, for years that’s all I ate for breakfast and lunch. If there were only two left in the cabinet at night, I would take and hide them in my closet so my brothers wouldn’t get them. Afterall, I did need to eat breakfast and lunch the next day.
Now that I’m long grown up and wiser, I still eat chocolate, but not for breakfast and lunch, just in between.
Anyone who visits the Shelby Store can always look forward to a hearty Chocolate snack or if your a coffee lover, a teaspoon of Mint Chocolate Ganache for your morning cup is here waiting for you.

I don’t have kids yet, but when I was a kid I was a chocoholic! I looooved Twix and Snickers. But of course with a sister 15 years older and a brother 19 years older, I never got very much of my candy by the time everyone was done “helping” me sort through it all!
I’ve learned since then. Now that I’m older and I have my own home and I am the one handing out the treats, I won’t be buying my candy until tonight. That way, my husband won’t eat it all before the kids start knocking!
Happy Halloween Everyone!

Hey what about the wax bottles that were filled with juice, those were fun too. You would chew the juice out of them and just keep on chewing on the wax til your jaw got sore.
Razzles were my fav, and hubba bubba gum, don’t see the varieties anymore like they had when were younger.

I have a soft spot for skittles, and starburst!! Sometime i even wish i was like the guy in the commercial, everything he touches turnes into skittles. can you imagine how many skittles you could have if you touched just one other skittle?
Bob C- Bottle caps are yummy. I only see them this time of year though.

More than any particular item, it was the amount of candy that produced the WOW factor.
