A Box of Chocolates or Slice of Pie?
The news isn’t getting any better and now it looks like we will be in this turbulent period of time at least until August 2009. So what should we do?
Indulge in comfort. The other day I mentioned "cocooning" and many agreed they love to wrap up in a soft blanket in front of a roaring fire and read a book. With daylight savings time over, I’m going to bed earlier and sleeping longer. The bed always comfortable is even more so.
For humans, there still remains nothing more comforting than food. Comfort foods include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, hot homemade Angie’s pizza bread, pasta and dessert.
Ah, the thrill of dessert. For me, it’s strictly weekends and even then, the desserts are monitored. Except of course on special occasions. And my most favorite of those is coming up shortly: Thanksgiving.
I used to love a box of chocolates. Remember Fannie May? Whitman’s Sampler? Sydney Bogg? Sanders? Now it’s Godiva which I think is OK at best. Regardless, I hate the cream centers and love the nut/caramel ones.
Pie is my favorite and it’s a toss up between real pumpkin or warm apple with crumb topping and vanilla ice cream on the side. Yes, I also love banana and coconut creme, and peanut butter with chocolate topping is pretty good too.
But for Thanksgiving, one must be a traditionalist. The problem lies in portion control. Is it half a piece of each to start? Then sneak up and eat the other half of each? And then take the knife and cut a secret piece and eat that over the sink? You see, that’s why I only eat pie once a year. I can’t stop.
What do you prefer: A box of chocolate or piece of pie? And which is your favorite?
If you can’t talk about the news, comfort food is always a good option.
Happy Wednesday!

I have never been a fan of pies… and it always seems that when I have a box of chocolate, I only like a few of them and the rest are either dark chocolate or creamy centers- which I also don’t like. I love blueberry tea cake and warm peach cobbler with ice cream.. those are my weaknesses.
Only 15 more days until Thanksgiving!!Yeah

I will take pie over a box of chocolate any day. I think my mom’s strawberry pie is probably my favorite, but this time of year, it’s got to be grandma’s pumpkin pie!

I will take a piece of Apple or Pumpkin pie ANY day over a box of chocolates!!! Apple is my all time favorite. Specially when it’s all warm and gooey with the crumbles ontop….mmmm! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can not wait until Thanksgiving! Food, Food and more glorious FOod!!!

I have never really been a fan of chocolates. When I was little my parents would open a box of chocolates to find all the pieces had a tiny bite taken out of them because I was looking for the one kind that I did like: coconut. Of course, there was usually only 1 or 2 in the box, so I learned to stay away from the box.
Coconut cream pie is my ABSOLUTE favorite. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have no self control when I know it’s sitting in my fridge just calling my name. I try to only buy it once a year so that when I do indulge, I don’t feel so guilty!

I have the same two favorites: pumpkin and apple pie. Pumpkin pie needs no kaizen; it couldn’t possibly be improved upon.
I read last year in Men’s Fitness that pumpkin pie is the least unhealthy of all the pies. And if you just eat the filling and not the crust (yea right), you can pretty much be guilt free.

PUMPKIN!! Hands down. I could eat a whole pie on my own! With a smidge of whipped topping on the crust.
That was a nice deversion from reality, good call Mr. Gaynor.

Hummmm there are so many I love, strawberry rhubarb, cherry, coconut, I do love a good pumpkin pie – I love the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks even more. However a new favorite is derby pie it is pecan pie with chocolate chips in it. It is amazingly good and very easy to make if you want the receipe let me know. It is so good it is now a staple with our Thanksgiving dinner Derby pie and pumpkin pie.
Never been a big fan of apple pie – just not an apple person.

Chocolates by far, but I will buy specialty chocs, they have to have nuts, coconut is fabulous and caramel but the nuts have to be incorporated in there for sure.
If I have to have any pies my first choice would be chocolate peanut butter pie then Pecan,Yummy. I guess I’m pretty hungry now, it’s time for lunch.
I cannot wait to for Thanksgiving, we all have so much to be Thankful for.
Happy Wednesday Everyone!!!!

My grandpa used to buy me Whitman’s samplers. haha And my dad always taught me to cut a teeny whole out of the bottoms of the chocolate pieces to find out what the center was. But I really don’t like specialty chocolates. I am making homemade pumkin pies this weekend though! And apple pie is good too, but with coolwhip instead of ice cream.

I love sweets in general! Fall always brings my two favorites pies out. My mom makes the best apple pie, it has the crumb toping, which is my favorite part
And as for her pumpkin pie…it is the only pumpkin pie I will eat. It has vanilla pudding in with the pumkin and a layer of coolwhip mixed with cream cheese…omg! And if you want an incredible box of chocolates…it See’s handsdown. I also love the carmel/nut chews:) See’s has one chocolate that I always take out of the box and hide. It’s walnuts in carmel and the bottom is dipped in dark chocolate…the best. God, I love the holidays!

Pie, pie and more pie…….Dessert is a weakness. Rather than focusing on a favorite, I go for a slice of whatever happens to be the best looking pie on that particular day.

Man, now I really want some pumpking pie!
Cool wHHip. Pie tastes better with cool wHHip. haha

Definately pie. Almost any kind of fruit pie. I typically don’t “top” my pie with anything unless of course there is a batch of REAL whipped cream. Yum!

I am all about the French Silk with the chocolate shavings on top! Bakers Square has the best French Silk pie and I always have some on Thanksgiving

Love Pumpkin Pie!
Love Coconut Cream Pie! (Big Boy’s is awesome!)
Love a box of chocolates when it is the Dark Chocolate Nut & Chew Mix!
(See’s Candies had the best and they open up a store front at 12 Oaks every holiday!)

I like pecan, banana and lemon pie. I would gladly pass up the chocolates if I see a yummy slice of one the above on the dessert table! I think I am the only one in my family that does not like Pumpkin Pie. I am not a fan at all for anything pumpkin. We have a tradition, we name our turkeys before we cook them. Wonder what name we will agree on this year!
Like everyone else, I am looking forward to Thanksgiving to be able to be with my family. Take care everyone!

Warm, melty, creamy, scrumcious PUMPKIN PIE! I would curl up to any warm fire and after thanksgiving dinner family friends time to a big piece of pie. I am a fan moreso of the Pumkin pie cheesecake. But the warm taste of Pumkin pie can not be beat!~

I love pecan, and key lime! those two are my favorite pies! I also like chocolate, but not as much as pie. I would love to curl up in front of a fire and eat a warm pie of homemade pecan pie! delicious!
