Eat Paczki’s-Be Happy
Detroit might be falling off the face of the map but at least we have a few things going for us. One of those things is Paczki’s (pronounced POONCH-key).
These hot and delicious jelly-filled doughnuts are made in Hamtramck, a community near downtown. Today is the official Paczki Day in which bakery’s make zillions of them and people line up outside (it is 8 degrees) to wait to buy them by the dozen.
These fat-laden bombs come in typical jelly flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, lemon, and blueberry. They also come in vanilla and chocolate custard. But don’t worry about calories; the average Paczki is only 480 calories and 30+ grams of fat. No wonder people eat 2-3 of them! But hey, Lent is around the corner.
We’re happy when we splurge especially when it comes to eating. Although I have purchased Paczki’s, I have never indulged.
Our CFO splurges on chocolate chip cookies. I swear that he can eat a dozen giant cookies in the manner of a couple hours. And he wants more!
Do Paczki’s sound good to you? When you do splurge, what is it? Years ago, one of my splurges was every Friday, I would go to McDonald’s a get two cheeseburgers and fries. Yummy!
So if we can’t be happy because of the economy, stock market or weather, at least we can be happy eating. Now who has the Pepto?
Happy Tuesday!

I can’t wait to have a paczki! I come from a 100% polish Catholic family so I’ve never gone without one, LOL. My fav has to be the strawberry filled! Great….now I want one!
My weakness is also for chocolate chip cookies! I love the cookies from Nestle Toll House! Add a big glass of milk and I’ll call it a day.

I split my Paczki with Asha…less calories if you only eat half!

My splurge is some kind of chips. Lately I’ve been addicted to the baked BBQ Lays. They are MORE healthy then regular potato chips. So it’s ok to eat half a bag…right?? lol!! Oh! And of course the Salsitas that are in the vending machine every once in a while…THOSE are amazing!

I love Paczki any flavor will do but if I had to choose a flavor I would go with the custard filled……
Hummmm splurges – chili cheese fries or anything with chocolate. If I have to splurge it would be one of those….
Now I am hungry!

Honestly.. they don’t really sound that good to me.. I am not a big fan of jelly.. I am a toast with butter girl and the only donut that I like is glazed.
My fav splurge would have to be when we go to Village Inn (a resturant)..
They have bbq chicken nachos- they are sooo good that even when I’m full I can’t stop eating them!! also string cheese!!

I have to say, My indulgences is fast food also.. I can go weeks and months not eating a single cheeseburger (turkeyburgers don’t count) and be perfectly satisfied! Then there’s that one day when I drive by Mcdonalds or Burger King and all I can think about is a Nice juicey Big Mac or BK broiler sandwhich. I was always a healthy active kid. I could down two, three cheesburgers no problem and not gain a pound. My dad used to tell me watch out or it will creep up on you! A few years ago I was definatley eating my words when I realized everyday was not indulging. But I like the word indulge. Now that I am capable of indulging I think of it more as a treat and or reward! I don’t know about anyone else but when I think of food I get so EXCITED! Paczki’s are something we had in the house when I was a little girl, but I can’t even remember the last time I ate one! CRAZY!

Ice cream, for sure! Mint chocolate chip is my aboslute fav:)
But, that’s something that I can eat all the time if I want….when I think of treating myself, I think of something that I don’t have that often…so it’s going to have to be Xochimilco’s downtown in Mexicantown. Me, Joee and her boyfriend like to go to dinner there a few times a year and it’s always a big deal – I love it!

I don’t really like paczkis. Dining out for breakfast always turns into a splurge……Eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage. And, who can resist a stack of pancakes with butter and maple syrup on top.

I had my first one this morning.. way to sweet for me! But it wasn’t that bad, a bite was good enough
My splurge though would have to be Cherry Slurpee’s. I don’t care how cold it is outside or what time of day it is.. If I get that Craving I have to get one, and won’t be happy until it is gone!

Reeses peanut butter eggs…I have to have them hidden or I could seriously eat the whole bag. Thankfully they only come out around Easter.

Custard filled would be the only ones I like. The jelly filled ones are gross.
My splurge would have to be a classic coke which I don’t drink for a couple of reasons: the caffiene and the calories.
