Fior Fiore Pizza in Rome is Still The Best

During our Kemon visit, Daniel and I took a side trip to Rome for a couple of days via the train. The moment we got off the train and exited the train station, we got into a taxi and headed straight to Fior Fiore.

I first went to this pizza place 10 or so years ago: Max and Essie introduced us to the best pizza in the world. The secrets are many, but unlike traditional pizza that is round, Fior Fiore makes their pizza in sheets and then you order by how many inches you want. Then they slice it off and hand it to you. It is best folded over and when you bite into it, it’s nirvana.

Fior Fiore Pizza in Rome by you.

So the excitement level was intense when the taxi dropped us off. Since then, the place doubled in size and I wasn’t sure it was even the right place. But sure enough it was and we went to the counter to order our slices.

We got the traditional Margarita and also one with only tomato sauce; one with zucchini and one with mushrooms. They were all devoured in minutes. Best of all, they were just as good as 10 years ago, and perhaps better.

Never enough pizza by you.

The place has been around since 1975. All I can say is that it’s worth getting on a plane to Rome to eat their pizza. In fact, Delta starts June 24 non-stop from Detroit.

Now I’m getting hungry for more!

Happy Tuesday!

Larry, I hope there was more than just the two of you. That looks like a whole lot of food!
What a great idea for a restaurant to do in Michigan. The pizza looks fabulous. It would have to be hand-tossed though. NOTHING beats a hand-tossed pizza.
Hey LG. What an idea for the next tng worldwide lunch. Could they freeze it and ship it over???

So I looked it up, on why its called that…..it was bugging me! lol

The History of Pizza. First-made in Naples for Queen Margherita, a recipe for Pizza Margarita which is still popular today – over 100 years later.

It’s said that the pizza that made Naples world famous is the Pizza Margherita in Italian or Pizza Margarita to the rest of the world. It was first baked in 1889 by a local man and the town baker called Esposito. He created the pizza in honour of a visit to Naples by the Queen of Italy, Queen Margherita.

He designed the pizza to follow the colours of the Italian flag, so he chose tomatoes for the red, basil for the green and Mozzarella for the white, to create the famous and patriotic pizza we still eat today.

    :)

So, we can eat some Margherita pizza and then drink some Margaritas!

  12. Karen Poole Says:

Where in Rome is Fior Fiore? Sounds like I need to put this in my PDA for my next visit to Italia.

  13. Larry Says:

It is located minutes from the Spanish Steps in the prime shopping area.
And the pizza is hand tossed and then shaped into the rectangle.
The secret is the water, type of flour and Italian tomatoes.
    And they can’t ship internationally!

  14. Crystal S. Says:

Well Larry… if it’s not shipped internationally, then you’ll just have to get the correct kind of water, flour and lots of Italian tomatoes and make some for us! Cuz those pictures look sooo good, I wanna eat it from there! lol!!!

  15. Melissa Says:

    Field Trip!!!

Is it me, or does it look like the guy in the background serving the pizza also has his mouth full? Even he can’t resist while he’s serving it!

  17. Kim B. Says:

Hey Little Caesars still rocks though for us here in Michigan!
I have had many a pizza and I still LOVE my PIZZA PIZZA!!!
I will never get to Italy, so this will have to do:)

  19. Larry Says:

    Funny store about Little Caesars.
    Well, not so funny.
I loved Fior Fiore so much and there was nothing like it here, I called Ilitch to tell him about this pizza. He actually sent a team to Fior Fiore to check it out. Six months later Little Caesars introduced their new “Thin Square” pizza. They knocked it off but they used the same ingredients as their regular pizza and it was a flop.
Ilitch never called me, sent me a free pizza or acknowledged anything.
