Favorite Energy Drink

Detroit might not have won the Cup Friday night but we did get the Red Bull Air Races. Red Bull has made so much money that they can sponsor air races and just about anything else they want to.

The Red Bull story is fascinating. You can read it online. Against all odds, this one ex-business guy learned about an energy drink from Japan and for three years tried to get approved from the Austrian government to sell it. It tasted awful, was eight times more expensive than Coke and had no previous market to sell into. The one thing it had on its side: energy boosting power and an alternative to other products.

The billionaire will never spend all his money regardless how many cans he consumes. But fame in this business like many others can be fleeting. Red Bull has lost market share for the past few years to upstarts such as Monster and the red hot 5 Hour Energy. Coke, Pepsi and others all have their own brands.

I know some people that consume several of these a day. Monster alone has more than 12 teaspoons of sugar. At least 5 Hour Energy is sugar-free.

What is your favorite energy drink? And why? And what is going to be the next hot drink category?

Happy Tuesday!

Sugar Free Rockstar was my favorite, but I haven’t had one in months. I haven’t had coffee in weeks, either. I’ve lost my caffeine cravings; I think my body told me to stop.

  2. Melissa Says:

I was drinking Pepsi Max there for a while. When I decided to stop drinking it, I suffered the worst caffeine headaches ever… I don’t really like how most energy drinks taste…

  3. Michelle Says:

I drink a cup of coffee every morning and that is about it. I’ve been exercising in the morning rather than the evenings and I’m finding that this is a great substitute for the morning caffeine.

  7. Lory Says:

I only drink coffee(with lots of creme to cover up the strong taste). I don’t drink energy drinks because I can’t get past the taste.

The next hot drink category will be what Coca Cola calls the “fountain of the future.”

    The Coca Cola “Freestyle”

Essentially, one machine can dispense over 100 different beverages, customized by the consumer.
Want a Vanilla Coke? How about a Peach Fanta? Perhaps a Strawberry Sprite?

It’s in test markets now and if all goes well will roll out world wide. Sounds like fun doesn’t it?

I like redline before a long workout.

  18. kate Says:

Coffee. Plain, black coffee-about 2-3 pots. I don’t like the “chemical” taste of energy drinks. I like Jolt Cola when I can find it.

Maybe Red Bull sales are down because the FDA tested it and found traces of cocaine in it! LOL

In that case give me cases of it…..JK

I barely drink energy drinks…but I love Monster- the yellow one or the purple one. :) My Bros collect all energy drinks and cans. They have tried everything…but they’re also big fans of Monster. Red Bull is gross. :)

Red Bull tastes terrible. I think people will start drinking dark tea with a lot of caffeine.
