Top 10 Unique Gifts
Ah the pleasure of shopping for a gift. &@%&!! There is no pleasure in gift shopping.
It’s no wonder that flowers, candy, fragrance, candles, music and books top the list. Simple and easy. But oh so boring.
Some of us have a mission to find that perfect gift. That one unique gift that when presented to a friend or family member, when opened, the person will smile and be so happy to receive. The one gift that actually might not be returned for store credit. Yes, those gifts do exist. But where?
Daniel bought me a Kindle for Father’s Day. He loaded up the fourth Twilight book and I gave it to the BUB to read. If she passed the Kindle test, it was mine to keep. While the Kindle didn’t pass the BUB test, it was still a unique gift.
So what unique gifts have you recently bought that have been a hit? Try to keep your list to under $50 and perhaps one splurge item over $50.
Happy Wednesday!

I like to give the gift of time to my family. Dinner and a show, play or concert spent together. It seems we never have enough together time. For my sisters, I arranged for us to update a Glamour Shot we had taken 14 years ago. None of us look the same anymore. I bought each of us one group and one single 8 x 10. Was definately a splurge. When it was time to pay for the bill ( I did not tell them I was planning on paying for this) I sprung the news that this was to be my treat and their 2009 birthday gift from me. It was worth it! They both started crying. I love that kind of stuff. I also try to listen throughout the year when some one voices a wish, I go out and buy it and then save it for the appropriate occasion, for example, my best friend loves Fleetwood Mac and said she would love their Greatest Hits CD. I went out and bought it and gave it to her 5 months later on her birthday.

I actually made a sml quilt out of shiny sari material for my mom 2 years ago. With all the materials it came to just under $50. She loves it!!

My husband and I decided last Christmas not to get eachother anything.
I found a brand new photo frame in the basement and went through some old pictures and new pictures and put it all together and wrapped it from Santa. He loved it and it cost 0 cents.
I recently bought my husband tickets to the Tigers game for Fathers Day, but I also bought the 3 kids tickets too so they could be together for the day, I stayed home and let them have there dad to their self. My husband has never been to Comerica Park and he enjoyed the time with the kids.

The wife and I do not buy each other Christmas or Birthday presents. We take that money and put it towards our vacations through the year. A couple weekend trips to Vegas and we take one night there to go out to a really nice dinner. Presents at our age dont do a thing for either of us…..That reminds me, her Birthday is Saturday the only thing we do is every year she wants to eat Indian food (YUCK!). Although they do have some great Indian beers ( I recomend Taj Mahal or Elephant beer in the 22 oz. bottles )MMMMM…Tasty!

My best friend loves to have her feet and legs massaged so for her the perfect gift was a pedicure. She couldn’t have been happier. The look on her face was worth a million. She will not spend the money on herself but she is always doing nice things for others so it was a special treat for her to relax and have what she likes most, which is a foot massage.
It was a blessing to me because she appreciated it so much.

A couple of years ago I went online with Shutterfly and made a scrap book with photos of the kids throught out the year and gave them as Christmas presents. All of our family is out-of-state and the grandparents don’t get to see the kids very often. They loved the books so much that we have given these 3 years in a row. They only cost us about $30 each including shipping.

It’s a device that is sold on Amazon. You can download books, magazines, and newspapers onto it. Kinda like an iPod for bookworms.

Home made gifts are the best gifts for family now– When my 2nd nephew, Nolan, was born I knew my sisters registry was covered so I went to Michael’s Crafts and got a wooden “toy chest” that was small, and had A, B and C carved in the sides– I got a ton of paint, painted it all boyish, got fabric and lined the inside and filled it with little toys and binkies. All together it cost around $50 and my sister loved it!

I was going to Mackinaw Island for my anniversary and instead of giving my wife a present, I sent 3 or 4 8×10 photos from our wedding to the hotel ahead of time and when we arrived, the hotel had them set up in our room with flowers.
Talk about getting brownie points. LOL..

I like taking the person shopping with a limit. My 8year nephew thought he was the coolest “buying ” his own stuff.
This way its a win , win. You spend time with the person and they get what they want.
