HSN, QVC & Shop NBC
We already know women love shopping. Can you imagine malls being built for men? Sears, Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney knew this more than 100 years ago when they introduced mail order catalogs. And when Jeff Bezos launched Amazon.com, women were lining up to shop online.
But who would have thought that in 2009 women would still shop from their TV? Infomercial’s have never been more popular. You know, buy this for $19.95. But wait. If you buy in the next ten minutes, we will toss in another one for FREE! But wait, if you buy in the next five minutes, we toss in this and that for FREE. And if you call right now, we’ll give you this and that for FREE too. All this for only $19.95 (and $15.00 s/h).
Conversely, HSN, QVC and start-up Shop NBC are doing more business today than ever before. Their #1 category: jewelry. Their #2 category: beauty.
Women love beauty on TV. Why? Perhaps it’s the guest artist. Perhaps it’s the allure. Perhaps it offers a unique solution for the moment. Perhaps it’s because of boredom. Perhaps women want to try something new and they trust TV.
Whatever the reason, beauty is proliferating and perhaps it’s time to get our products on TV. Question is, what products? There has to be a story. There has to be a reason to buy. There has to be intrigue.
Of all the products we sell, which single brand or product do you think would do best on TV?
Happy Friday!

I think that the reason why women buy off tv so often is because we impulse buy almost every purchase that we make…show us a good deal (or at least something that looks good), and we are bound to be sucked in!
I think that the Raquel Welch or Hair-U-Wear wigs would do best advertised on tv…pictures don’t do those any justice and for potential clients who are not in MI, tv is the best thing next to our showroom.

It sounds like a great way to get the Hair Manya name out there.

be PRO or Kemon retail products are good candidates. Skin care seems to do well on TV shopping channels. Look at Raw Minerals or Proactive Solutions. I think because on TV you can see results demonstrated visually in ways that a catalog or website just can’t convey.
Think of makeup demos with be PRO showing beautiful coverage and flawless applications…

I would agree with Shannon. The GLF is a great product, has a great price, the package is nice and simple. It is made in the USA,is ours, and has all the products needed for your hair style.
Another one would be our Fusion skin polish. It is amazing.

I think Ginger Lily Farms as well! That is a winner. Value priced and morks great and with the new line extension it’s time for TV!

I think a general be beautiful add showing a variety of products with a 800 number to order your free catalog.

I think you should do a commerical or something like that. But towards the end you could mention all the salons that buy from us….(kemon) and where to get it at, for those who aren’t licensed. And your salons who want a plug could maybe chip in for the spot fee’s… not costing you anything but promoting sales everywhere!
win win solution

Our BePro make-up line!!! This would be excellent! Then you can do the looks on and the demo’s on models! What better way to sell a product!!
The Ginger Lily Farms, another great product! Yo Fast mousse! (if we are aloud)
I was wondering when this was going to be our topic of conversation!! Also Be Beautiful could benefit from the BePro Makeu pbeing exposed to tv!

I think that we should take a tip from the drug companies on this one. I am always seeing commercials about prescription medication… “Ask your doctor about _____.” We could advertise our products on TV and in magazines, and then say “See your salon professional for details.” When people ask about specific products, that would encourage a salon to carry those items, if they don’t already, and boost sales if they do alreay carry it. We need to advertise to the consumer. I think that is why OPI is SO popular. We see it in EVERY fashion magazine. When women go to a salon, they want the tech to use OPI polish, so to stay in business, the salons have to use what the customer wants.

I’m with everyone else, GLF. Plus, in this season, it’s great for back to school!
I think moms that have college age kids would just buy it up like no other. Same with Hair Manya.

I agree with Melissa.
LG- in several of your previous blogs you discuss the need to drive value and business with the salons. Partnering with each other, considering each other to be stakeholders in the over business.
Melissa’s thoughts on “See your salon professional for details” is in line with that.
And while you could indeed “cut out” the salon’s, where would you be as a business without them?
