Gallup has it right: There are four principle engagement levers that one must own to be fully engaged in what they do:

  • Confidence: This comprises about 10% of total engagement. The ability to believe in yourself and do what you do well.
  • Integrity: This comprises about 15% of total engagement. This is about showing respect, being a team player and constantly learning.
  • Pride: This comprises about 30% of total engagement. This is about being an ambassador for the company you work for (and family), making great first impressions, being empowered and showing respect.
  • Passion: This comprises about 40% of total engagement and is the most difficult of all to possess. This is about showing genuine appreciation for everything you do and those around you. When one has passion, you know it from their smile, their actions, the way they communicate and live their daily life.

These four tenants are part of our TNG credo and every TNG talent carries their credo card with them at all times. I got this idea from The Ritz Carlton who originated the credo card. We’ve been doing this for more than five years.

These values are what set apart amateurs from professionals. Pro’s must be fully engaged at all times to be their best. Constant learning, training, practice, competition and winning are part of their daily lives. You witness this in every profession (that’s why it’s called profession) such as sports, Texas Hold ‘Em, cooking (Chefs are the new big thing),  finance, and being a business owner.

It’s not easy being a fully engaged professional. That’s why some are better than others. You also have to have a natural talents. But in virtually every instance, pro’s always beat amateurs. Amateurs may possess confidence and integrity, but they have yet to acquire pride and passion.

Amateurs show their full colors when they compete with professionals. It isn’t pretty. That’s one reason why college football teams don’t play against NFL teams even in pre-season. It’s a totally different playing field.

Gallup has taught me many things over the years and the one lesson I always keep in the back of my mind is about passion. I’m passionate about the business and that’s why I’m not selling out. Our team is passionate about the business. Those in our industry that are passionate understand our purpose and mission.

Please visit gallup.com to learn more about engagement. In the meantime, let’s move forward doing the best that we can.

Happy Thursday!

Professionals wait for a good pitch and do not swing at pitches in dirt!! A grandslam is your badge of honor .

Is now a bad time to ask to bring back the Christmas Party at the Ritz or maybe a free for all Holloween party this fall?

  4. Anonymous Says:

Is there anything to sell? All the lines are almost gone…

  5. Anonymous Says:

Does that same CFO still work there? The one who dated the sales rep in tanning. What a great guy. The company really started to take off once he took charge.

    Boy Oh Boy!

  7. Lory Says:

    Amateurs always post under Anonymous.

  8. Katharine Says:

Larry, those of us that are still here and still standing support you, this company, and what it stands for 100%. The people that are loyal to you appreciate you not selling out when I’m sure at times it would have been the most easy and comfortable route. Thank you.

    ?????????
Yeah right you can tell you have all of above with the blog you posted yesterday and then you had to take down !!! Oh maybe TIGI made you take it down! LOL
Has it been 2 or 3 years since TNG has done anything with Gallup???
    Give me a break!

  15. Rachel Says:

Honestly! How old are some of you??? Grow up and act your age! And if you can’t do that…You can always be put in time out and act like a child and pout :(

  16. NG Says:

Looks like this is a war between employees of tng past and present

What are you afraid of Anon!!??

  21. Mark Losey Says:

No one is ever truly anonymous on the web. Just an FYI.

  22. SCTREG1 Says:

Are you working on it then Mark?? ;) ;)

  23. Rachel Stevens Says:

WTF, Larry Gaynor has always been there for each and everyone of his employee’s,It is a shame that every thing he has tried to do to help TNG talent has been forgotten.I took alot with me from Nailco and it hurts to know that there are employee’s that wont stand behind a company that has gave more to them then any other company around .Every company has it’s up’s and down’s .But to get back up on there feet they need the passion and confidence from there employee’s .All i really got to say is {Dont give up on Larry ,or the company they where there for you at times and you sould be there for him}dont make the same mistake i did .some times pride can hurt you instead of help you.And like my Grandma use to say {If you dont have something nice to say ,then keep it to your self}I wish Larry Ganor the best in what ever he does. And if you all where true to your selfs and the company you would do the same and stand by him and his decisions..

  24. Anonymous Says:

Maybe Gallup has been put on “hold” because of the expense.
TNG has not ever spared expense on education for employees or customers. The company is the epitome of Confidence, Integrity, Pride and Passion.
Maybe it is picking and choosing where to put your $’s in this tough economy.
For all of the disgruntled employees responding:
Why are you wasting so much time and energy and being bitter?
Just move on. I am sure you will be able to use the skills that you learned at TNG and apply them somewhere else. Obviously, you were and are not happy. So glad you are taking your attitude somewhere else so the new company can enjoy it. Have pleasant life……………………..

  25. ANONYMOUS Says:

Keep on being our “maverick” in this industry, Larry! Just keep on keepin’ on! We’re behind ya!

  26. Peace and Love Says:

Seriously, what seems so unsavory to me is who are we to judge ANYTHING or ANYBODY? Until you’ve ran an ISO company- built of your own blood, sweat and tears…who are you to cruicify anyone? It’s real easy to sit back and mock everything and everybody when it was just as simple as showing up to work for you and getting a paycheck.

  27. Katharine Says:

    amen…

  28. Anonymous Says:

    Keep drinking the purple kook-aid!!

  29. Anonymous Says:

    P & L has a good point.
    Answer the question.
Have you ever run your own business? (I know the answer to that!)
Do you even have a job?
    Does the state support you?
With an attitude like yours I would be surprised if you even worked……..

  30. T T Says:

It is so easy for some people to just sit back and judge others. There is only 1 person that we need to answer to at the end of the day and only 1 real judge in this world. I am honored to be a part of tng and look forward to all the exciting and fun that is coming our way!

  32. T T Says:

    Great one Jeff~

  33. Catt Says:

Jeff – What a great quote to end a not so perfect day in blogland ;)

  34. Dan Mace Says:

Funny thing to me about all of this, I never so much complaining from people who received gifts, cash bonuses, BBQ’s, and whatever else Larry and Teresa felt like doing. Not that I would say anything bad about someone who decides to leave heck one of them is one of my best friends. He left over 15 years ago and still talks about how much he enjoyed working for Larry and Teresa because, the way they treated him. He just wanted something different so, he left. The other funny thing is how many people I know have left and wanted to come back and work here.

Maybe the blog should have said thank you for your time and service to tng ( I am guessing that is all the extra things Larry and Teresa have done to express that but, people forget ) But remember now that you decided to play for another team please excuse us rebels as we do everything we can to win and if that means you end up losing …. sorry

  35. michael reyzis Says:

    Larry:
I was not surprised to find misspeling (typo), but rather by the fact that it took you so long to start your blog.
    Good luck
    Love
    Michael

  36. AMK Says:

    Well said Dan!

  37. Anonymous Says:

The rant about TIGI was unprofessional and it was prudent to remove it from the blog. I hope you can put TIGI in the past and focus on the advancement of your company. Depasquale reinvented themselves and so can you. Good Luck

  38. t Says:

I am confused so you carry tigi in your stores and you said something to the effect that if we give tigi business you don’t want to do business with us? Aren’t you giving tigi business? I don’t want to lose any of my lines but I don’t want to be made to choose either. I feel like this blog is more than just disgruntled former employees. I think it is also frustrated salon owners.

  39. Biolage Banshee! Says:

tigi had to do what’s best for them. Any line that TNG once carried but lost becomes the brunt of LG’s jokes. Its actually pretty sad. Same goes for employees. Everyone remembers the comments he made about Kim after she left. His true feelings come out once you leave. Its like a kid that’s made fun of in highschool. He makes money and now thinks everyone’s a peon. The meals, gifts and anything else is make up for being underpaid and overworked. Go rebels!

  40. Anonymous Says:

    Still bitter?
    Get a life………

  41. Anonymous Says:

Overall this was some good reading. I think the anonymous bloggers started off strong. Then the purple and white came back with some good comments. I’d say it was an equal battle up until 4:19pm when dan mace poured his heart out. I think the rebels actually lost a few points with his blog.

I’d have to say anonymous is slightly ahead right now. Hope we can get some more good reading today.

  42. Rachel Says:

Let the games begin…………..let’s try not to act like animals today people!

  43. Jeff Says:

I think it’s time for the rebels to wash our hands.
    Moving on……

  44. Jim Arsenault Says:

    TEEBS?
    Coups?

  45. Rachel Stevens Says:

True Rebels,Dont lay down in the fight .they get back up on there feet and push forward. Now all you have to do is return to being the best team ever ,And stop the madness make the customers Delighted to be a part of our Industry.I truely love TNG and i know that this to will pass…..GO Rebels
