YIKES!

Yet another technology is coming our way that will disrupt the way we do practically everything. It’s called NFC or Near Field Communication. What it will do will empty your purse and/or wallet.

YIKES!

The PC is not even 30 years old. Bill Gates was in high school when he learned about DOS and in college when he launched Microsoft. Two of my three kids were born after the PC. Back when I was born, Ma Bell was still issuing rotary phones.

YIKES!

The fax machine was introduced just a little over 20 years ago. What a magical piece of equipment that was. Unless you were FEDEX or UPS. But the 1.6 modems were a killer and fax is dead as cassettes.

YIKES!

Apple launched its game changer product, the iPod in 2001. Music would never be the same and music stores cursed Apple for it. Remember Harmony House?

YIKES!

Motorola came out with the first marketable cell phone and when they launched the Razr in 2004, it was the beginning of cell phone madness. That was only 7 years ago. There was nothing cooler than flipping the phone open to make and/or receive a call. But it didn’t take photos or download music.

YIKES!

Apple launched its game changer product, the iPhone in 2007. Cell phones would never be the same. This ushered in the smart phone generation. People lined up for miles to buy one. If you didn’t own a smart phone, you weren’t cool. Soon you will find out if you don’t own one, you can’t leave your home.

YIKES!

This September Apple will launch its latest game changer, the one that will change the game for credit card companies, banks, consumers, retailers, and perhaps everyone in the world, the iPhone 5. Steve Jobs is secretly plotting the take over of planet Earth and become the first $1 Trillion company in the galaxy. He most likely took medical leave because his thin body couldn’t handle all the energy, adrenaline and excitement that this product will create. The iPhone 5 will contain NFC technology and as we all know, anything Apple does is not normal. It will own NFC technology.

YIKES!

OK, if you have read to this point, your interest is definitely piqued. You are asking, OK, what the hell is this NFC technology? it’s quite simple actually. In Apple’s sense, it’s the ability to use the iPhone 5 as an electronic reader/scanner. It works within 4” of the scanning source. You simply put your iPhone 5 near an electronic reader and it takes all your information instantly and transfers it to where it is needed. Here are some examples that within 2-3 years, we will be doing:

  • Paying for anything. No more credit cards, no more debit cards, in fact no more cards! Just scan at the supermarket, vending machine, toll booth and your credit card/debit card account will be charged. Apple already has all your information in iTunes. This will allow Apple to take on Visa, Mastercard, Discover and well, you get the point. They will make money on every transaction.
  • Checking in for flights (this is already available). But wait, your driver license and passport will be here too so bye-bye to those documents.
  • Getting info you need on anything. Every product, every poster, everything will have a readable label on it. You will use your phone to download the info and look at anytime.
  • Bye bye loyalty cards. Who needs the Kroger or Target cards, they will be stored on the phone and you will scan.
  • Hospital admissions, movie theater admissions, and after all is said and done, asylum admissions as more and more of us will need to be checked in.

YIKES!

Happy Thursday!
