Ask any hairdresser what the most important thing a company/brand can offer and in most instances it will be education.

But when it comes to education, you get what you pay for. What I have found over the past 15 years in the hair business is that hairdressers really do make more money when they commit to a lifelong journey to education. Those that invest a substantial portion of their wages know it’s the best investment they can make.

I ask students at Student Day how much money they expect to make. Some say $100,000, others yell out more than that, some say $50,000, and many don’t know. I ask them if they know what salon they will work at when they graduate. I ask them if any are working at a salon for “free” to get experience. These are questions they haven’t thought about. I then go on to say for the first few years, you might not make more than $30,000 a year. Are you OK with that? I finish my presentation by stating that beauty school is only the beginning of your education as a hairdresser. If you want to make real money, you can never stop learning.

Our flagship Academy at our corporate headquarters is constantly brimming with classes and hairdressers. Each year, more than 3000 hairdressers come to learn. Most of them are repeat customers. And most of them make much more money than average hairdressers. Those that invest and come love the convenience, course selection, talent and variety. And they love the fact they don’t have to travel to New York, LA or some other remote location.

I am proud to announce that the Dallas-Ft. Worth area has a new Academy location. Located adjacent to our Dallas store on Preston Road, The Dallas Academy seats 60 for look and learn and hands-on for 18. Click here for an updated course schedule. Based on demand, more courses will be added including a new crop from Davines, Sojourn, OPI and CND.

On a side note, we just updated the Dallas store (courtesy of star talent Ryan) and it’s now brimming with merchandise. Be sure to come in and see the new Shellac colors, expanded pedicure, appliance and accessory sections. We even updated the paint colors and got rid of that dreadful blue.

Happy Monday!
