Unilever who bought the TIGI brand a couple years back just completed it’s acquisition of Alberto-Culver, makers of Tresemme, Nexxus and VO5 among other brands. They are now the #1 seller of conditioning hair products in the world, #2 in shampoo and #3 in styling. P&G’s Pantene brand is experiencing significant losses in market share (over 10% in just one year) and that is after they spend millions in market research. The action is in economy and high end brands.
I was in Vegas for the weekend and was shocked with all the people at the airport, hotels, restaurants, bars and walking the Strip. Room occupancy is back to the high 80+ and near 100% on the weekends. Good news for Vegas as it’s been mired in a terrible slump for the past two years. Plus Vegas seems to be a good indicator of how consumers are feeling and if they’re back to spending in Vegas, the indicator is positive.
And all the DELTA flights to Vegas from Detroit are always sold-out. It’s amazing the alcohol consumption and noise going and the water consumption and quiet coming back.
What’s with powerful men sleeping around? They all get caught, pay the consequences, yet it seems to be happening more often than not.

Got to love the new Frozen Hot Chocolate at Bigby Coffee. A pure copy of the famous Serendipity 3 product (they opened a huge snazzy restaurant in front of Caesar’s), just what consumers need is another high fat beverage.
Speaking of beverages that consumers don’t need, the new craze is relaxation drinks. Forget energy, these drinks calm you down from high stress living. DRANK is the leader but who knows where this is going.
OK, more beverage stuff. Doesn’t the new McDonald’s Strawberry Lemonade drink look great?
Record lows in LA, Vegas and just about everywhere else. 37 and cold up north today. Is spring ever going to come?
One of the weekly mags had a pictorial of celebrities with and without makeup. YIKES! Lady Gaga without makeup is U-G-L-Y. Make-up is no doubt one of life’s greatest inventions if you are a woman.
