Out Of My Mind On A Tuesday Mornin’
Monday, November 1st, 2010TEXAS is open! I was in Dallas over the weekend to visit the store locations and the new warehouse. The new warehouse is gorgeous and Coppell is a real fine new town. It reminds me of Novi a lot before Novi became Novi. The stores were looking real good too thanks to our Michigan-based store talent (I met with Brittany and Kat) working with our new Texas talent.
Tooling around Dallas, I was shocked to see virtually every strip center had a “Donut” shop, nail salon, check-cashing outfit and dental office. Perhaps all those donuts cause cavities.
Big Sojourn launch tonight at The Academy. Elan, Larry and their star chemist are on hand to wow the 250+ in attendance.
MSU is 8-1. I know, I know and I really don’t want to talk much about it. Every team loses once in a while and yes, this was a true trashing. But if we win the next 3, the Rose Bowl is still possible.
Danny Hale, inventor of Gelish, called me today to let me know he was first to market with the first gel nail polish. Atari and Mattel were first to market with video games. The important thing is which brands will be leaders and cement this category into stardom?
Formaldehyde-based straightening products are under scrutiny in several countries. Now the PBA is launching its own investigation. Perhaps Brylcreem will make a comeback.
Finally the elections are here tomorrow and we can say good riddance to all those commercials. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Presidential ads start on Wednesday for 2012.
Some $6 billion was spent on Halloween this year and half the costumes bought were for adults. Looks like most of us never want to grow up although when we were kids, costumes and candy were a whole lot different. Remember those plastic masks that made your face sweat and when people put a penny in your sack instead of candy?
Sunday New York Times featured a story that only the Times would print: How people are no longer using deodorant or taking daily showers. In fact, the article quoted a female CEO of an organic personal products company that said “I only need to use a soapy washcloth under my arms, between my legs and on my feet to stay clean.” It also mentioned how sales of dry shampoo are up 50%.
The Detroit Lions won their second game. The town is going crazy. Odds are back at 50-50 the next home game will be televised locally.
Visiting Dallas, Ft. Worth, Arlington, Plano and other cities with my broker, he informed me that the hottest concept going is the big burger and fries one. One new chain alone signed up for 40 locations. I’m sure there will be a donut place right next door.
Happy Tuesday!
